LONGCUTS: ARCHITECTURE FRINGE 2017

Civic Soup invited the public to participate, linger and enjoy Longcuts; a series of installations along old Restalrig railway.

Edinburgh’s North has a rich industrial legacy, from shipbuilding to glassmaking. The infrastructure of railway lines that underpinned this vast industry remains surprisingly intact. Some of these traces we have already documented, but for Archifringe 2017 we wanted to segue from an archival perspective to a tangible, spatial interaction with these historical sites.

Taking place on the 8th and 9th of July, Civic Soup and a team of collaborators created temporary gathering spaces along old Restalrig railway in Leith, using recycled and found materials. We intervened on the site of the old Restalrig railway, now a cycle path from Easter Road to Portobello.

OVER THE WEEKEND OF THE 8-9 JULY, LONGCUTS WAS…

A junk furniture Drawing Room, the Restalrig Path Archive, story sharing, collaborative music making, the City Factory, a candlelit dinner, fence-weaving in collaboration with Makeshift, & a special appearance by Sarah Calmus!

HOP ON YOUR BIKE OR TAKE A PROLONGED AMBLE DOWN RESTALRIG CYCLE PATH FOR SOME FUN, MUSIC, CONVERSATION AND MAKING!
